Professor Woei-Shyan Lee was appointed as the President of National United University, in 2020 and continues in this position until today. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from École Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique, Nantes (renamed as École Centrale de Nantes), France in 1990 and his Master and Bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan Institute of Technology (renamed as National Taiwan University of Science and Technology) in 1982 and 1984, respectively. Professor Lee served as the Head of Department, Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, from 2002 to 2005 and as the Secretary General of National Cheng Kung University from 2007 to 2011. He has been a Distinguished Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, since 1997 and was appointed as the Dean of the College of Engineering, National Cheng Kung University from 2016 to 2020. His research interests include the high strain rate deformation behavior of materials, impact fracture mechanics, and the nanoindentation behavior and microstructure evolution of thin films. He has published 186 research papers (h-index 28) to date and in excess of 165 conference proceedings. Professor Lee has been a Fellow of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineers since 2008. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Engineering Professor Award from the Institute of Engineers and Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineers, Taiwan, in 2004, and received the Mechanical Engineering Medal from the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineers, Taiwan, in 2018.
